[Webinar] Post-pandemic education for deaf learners in the Global South

Date: Thursday 2 September 2021.

Time: 11-12:30 BST.

Deaf Child Worldwide is hosting a webinar to share information on what education will now look like for deaf children because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this Zoom event, evidence from a research project and experiences from deaf secondary school students will be shared. A Q&A panel discussion with two deaf professionals that study the education system will also be available for anyone to access, and there is the opportunity to meet fellow practitioners from around the world in the breakout sessions.

The webinar will be in English, with live subtitles in English and International Sign throughout the whole event.

New brief: Child marriage and girls’ education

`Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage` has released a new brief that shares the key facts of child marriage and girls’ education, common drivers and impacts, and offers solutions to this issue. The brief includes examples of work by Girls Not Brides member organisations and recommendations for governments, among a wide range of other things.

* NEW * Inclusive Education Training Guide from CBM

EENET has helped CBM to develop an inclusive education training guide – for CBM staff, partners and other NGOs – that is based around a set of frequently asked questions. Facilitators can use these questions to help them select topics and activities to suit their trainees’ needs and interests. The activities can be used to create anything from a one-hour discussion at a staff meeting to a one-week workshop.

The guide consists of 5 booklets:

Introduction

A: Inclusive education and CBM
B: Inclusive education and the community
C: Participation and achievement for all learners
D: Education system change.

Each booklet contains background information on each question, activities, handouts, and case studies.

TiCC Event Series Launch at the GPE Global Education Summit

Date: 22^nd July 2021.

Time: 3pm UTC (Dakar).

This TiCC (Teachers in Crisis Contexts) event will include teachers, which have relevant experiences working in areas of crisis, getting involved; EiE (Education in Emergencies) actors sharing their practices and recent research on quality professional development; and collective discussions on how to work together to strengthen support to teachers where it is needed most.

Education and Safety: Listening to what ‘Build Back Better’ means for girls

Date: Monday 26 July 2021.

Time: 1.30 to 2:45pm London.

This Global Education Summit side event from Girls Not Brides is an interactive Youth Panel, and will include dialogue with girls’ champions to further talk about the topic of child marriage and girls’ education.

In partnership with World Vision.

This side event will be in English, and there will be French and Spanish interpretations available.

Transforming Social Norms to End Child Marriage and Advance Girls’ Education

Date: Tuesday 20^th July.

Time: 1pm Ouagadougou/2pm Lagos/4pm Nairobi.

This Global Education Summit side event from Girls Not Brides expands on the topic of child marriage and girls’ education. It aims to bring light to the fact that child marriage serves as a barrier to education for many girls, yet ending child marriage and transforming social norms are rarely explicit education goals.

This side event will be in English, and there will be French and Spanish interpretations available.

Child marriage and girls’ education: A global perspective and a unified call to action

Date: Thursday 22 July 2021.

Time: 8am New York/1pm London/6pm New Delhi.

At the Global Education Summit, this side event will attempt to show the education sector why ending child marriage must feature in education policies and budgets, and urge them to act. The ‘Girls Not Brides’ Education brief will be presented, along with key asks for governments, and advocacy strategies around the Summit.

The event will be in English, and there will be French and Spanish interpretations available.

[Webinar] Disability Inclusion in Education in Emergencies

Date: 22 July 2021.

Time: 1pm UTC.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought light to the huge inequalities in access to quality education that children with disabilities were already facing prior to the pandemic. During the webinar, testimonies and case studies that focus on inclusive education projects, which have been implemented during the pandemic, will be shared. More information on INEE’S Inclusive Education Task Team members and their work with the wider INEE community will also be shared.

From commitments to action: Financing for equity and disability inclusion in education – Side Event at the GES Summit

Date: Tuesday 27 July 2021.

Time: 11am EDT, 4pm BST, 5pm CEST.

Hosts: UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report and the World Bank, Education.

Co-hosts: the International Disability and Development Consortium, International Disability Alliance, the Global Action on Disability Network, the Global Campaign for Education and the Global Partnership of Education.

This side event will share promising practices for inclusive education financing, as well as encouraging peer learning and discussion on how countries can strengthen sector plans, education policies, and budgets for inclusive education; and address gaps in data systems. Young people with disabilities will be featured alongside education policy makers and education financing specialists from around the world.

English CART and Simultaneous interpretation in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali and international sign will be provided.
