This project’s initial aim was to support partners to write high quality submissions to the UNCRPD Article 24 General Comment consultation.

In late 2014, the Committee for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) announced that it would develop a General Comment on Article 24 (Education). General Comments are opportunities for the Committee to clarify and elaborate on key points made in the Convention’s articles. They can help explain to States Parties in more detail what their obligations are and what is expected of them in practice.

The Article 24 General Comment consultation process was open to contributions from civil society actors. In some countries both governments and civil society coalitions, and/or individual non-governmental organisations, submitted written contributions. Some also attended a consultation meeting.

EENET’s project, funded by Open Society Foundations (OSF), started in January 2015. Our first task was to help two of OSF’s other grantees to write and edit papers that they could submit to the General Comment process.
