Children, Disability and Development: Achievement and Challenge

A Save the Children Fund global seminar to learn from experience and maximise impact - Extract from Conference Report - April 13th - 22nd 1994

Session 4 - Monitoring and Evaluation, The Process

Facilitators: Mike Edwards and Louisa Gosling

Aim of session:
To introduce SCF's Toolkits on Assessment, Monitoring, Review and Evaluation.

Objectives:
1. To get feedback on the relevance of Toolkits
2. To encourage use of the Toolkits

Summary:
In this session participants were introduced to SCF's Toolkits on Assessment, Monitoring, Review and Evaluation. It was emphasised that SCF staff and partners should use the Toolkits in a way most appropriate to the situation, not as a block reference. It was recognised that training and support in the use of the Toolkits is recommended.

The group articulated a need for a tool with a focus on disability programmes. The revised Toolkits will include a 'Disability Checklist', which is a list of questions to be asked when planning or evaluating programmes which do not focus specifically on disability. Participants suggested that Toolkits should be piloted by DPOs, and that more short workshops were needed on their use.
