Ed Todos

Introducing Ed Todos

Ed Todos is a Brazilian NGO, founded in 1998. We were inspired by EENET’s aims and approaches, but we are an independent organisation. We seek to contribute to the development of inclusive education and children’s rights in Brazil and in Latin America. We believe that teacher training in inclusive education is essential for the development of more inclusive education systems and for combating exclusion of children living in disadvantaged situations.

Ed Todos and inclusive education networking

Ed Todos is launching its own website (www.edtodos.org.br) in March 2004. The site will focus on supporting initial and continuing teacher training, and aims to help foster conversations and debates about this training and about the roles of higher education in the development of inclusive education systems (particularly in Southern countries).

We ran a Latin American Congress on Inclusive Education in 2001 (entitled “Learning to include and including to learn”). Participants came from Argentina, all over Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Guyana, Mexico, Portugal and the UK.

Ed Todos has been actively involved in research activities. This has included the development of a book for Save the Children called “Learning About the Rights of Disabled Children: A guide for families, schools and communities”, published in Portuguese in November 2003 (see www.scslat.org). We were also involved in a study on public policy for the World Bank qualitative study on inclusive education in Brazil. You can read the report (Portuguese, Spanish and English versions) here. You can also download the document as a PDF file.

We are involved in various Brazilian lobbying and campaign groups and activities on child rights and education issues, and we speak at various international conferences and meetings. Ed Todos helps to disseminate EENET’s newsletter, which is available in Portuguese, and in 2003 we facilitated an on-line email discussion group on the issue of public policies on inclusive education.

Join Ed Todos in networking and information sharing

As with all networks, Ed Todos can only expand its networking and information sharing activities if other organisations and individuals get involved. We would like to hear from anyone in Brazil and Latin America who has inclusive education experiences to share, who is facing challenges in bringing inclusive education to their work, or who can offer support in terms of providing documents/information or funding for the network.
