About Cameroon:
Volunteering with CAMAAY (The Cameroon Association of Active Youths) will give you the opportunity to discover all the riches of Africa. The north of the country, with six natural parks, offers wonderful opportunities. Cameroon also has 400km of Atlantic Coastline with clean, natural beaches and warm ocean to swim in. There is an immense variety of people as varied as the land itself, with cultures that are still real and alive. Where would you find a greater variety of landscape than in Cameroon, from tropical rainforest to savannahs, from high plateaus to dry plains and steppes on the Southern border of the Sahel, all the scenery you will expect to find in Africa is here in a single country, smaller than France. Why look any further?
About the voluntary work:
Obviously the ideal is to promote education for all children in their local
school, and to solve the barriers that currently prevent this from happening.
We are looking for committed volunteers who can come to Cameroon and work with us to achieve the following:
Help in the identification of children with special education needs in some selected schools in some municipalities:
- conduct a need assessment study for the children and their communities
- conduct research and design an innovative program to provide home-based care to children with special education needs that will constitute the following activities which are interrelated.
Home-based CBR (community-based rehabilitation) for children with disabilities so that they can improve their mobility, communication skills, and/or other skills for daily activities that would then help them to be included in their family, community and eventually also regular school life?
Home-based educational support, for children who (as yet) are not able to attend their local school (either because they have a very severe impairment or the school is not willing to accept them) This sort of educational support might include, I suppose, training parents in rehabilitation and educational techniques so they can 'home-school' their child; providing an itinerant teacher who can make regular visits to help the child study/develop skills at home; developing a network of parents of disabled children who can help each other with educational/developmental activities at home, etc. extra support (at home) for children who are already attending school but who need a bit more help than the school/teachers can provide during regular lessons. For instance this might mean, again, training parents to help children with studying or learning basic development skills at home; supporting their teachers to do home visits; providing itinerant teachers or volunteers who can give extra educational support to the child outside school hours; developing buddy systems or children's clubs so that children help each other with homework, studying, etc.
Obviously the ideal is to promote education for all children in their local school, and to solve the barriers that currently prevent this from happening you will also work toward the setting up of a resource centre on inclusive education and for special education.
- You will run refresher courses for teachers and special educators.
- You will monitor, evaluate and access existing teaching methods and curriculum used in the training of special educators
- You will design an advocacy program on inclusive education and special needs education
- You will provide lectures for students taking courses on inclusive education
Application process
An application form will be sent to you to fill in. Upon receipt of the form, we will assess your suitability for the programme within two working days. If you are successful we will then e-mail you a letter of acceptance. Once you have read through the letter of acceptance and we have answered any questions or concerns that you might have, we will contact you to ensure everything is organized. We will also send you our programme guide which covers topics such as country information travel links, visa application process and others. Throughout the application process, we are committed to working with you to answer any of your questions or concern. During your stay and placement, we are also available as a form of support to you as a volunteer. Feel free to ask any question, request an application form, contact us with any proposition, make preparations and if possible raise funds for your trip. We wish you the best and welcome you as a volunteer with us
What we provide.

Volunteers are responsible for their food and other related cost. But we can make arrangements for that upon their request.
